One More Sleep

It's only one more sleep until I get to hold you in my arms again!  You've had a busy week hanging out with Dad and lots of other visitors.  I've been busy out here in DC going to class and becoming an instructor.  It is my first work trip and overnights away from you.  But tomorrow...I get to see you, hold you in my arms, and kiss your cheeks.  I cannot wait!  I realized even more this week how greatly you've affected my life and how much a part of me you have become.  Love you little man...to the moon and back.

Our Week Ahead

I'm currently soaking up all the time I can with you. You see, I have been dealing with this achy heart feeling for the last couple weeks of what is to come starting tomorrow for me.  It's my first work trip away from you.  Our original plan had been to buy a plane ticket for your Dad and then we'd all go as a family.  However, when we checked the websites, we realized the tickets were well over $1000 and then we started thinking about bringing you all the way to DC and if it was just better for you to stay home at this point.  So tomorrow, I leave for DC and my heart aches just thinking about the 5 days I will be away from you.  I will be rather busy with work and I took extra stuff to get done at night, in the hopes that I can catch myself up while I'm away from you and then be able to head home on time in the weeks to come.  None the less, I think it will be a weird feeling to not sleep in the same house as you or know at the end of the day I will see your smiling face in person and get to hold/feed you.  Dad and I have set up skype on my phone so we can have daily calls and I can see you.  Plus you will have plenty of visitors this week to help your Dad out (although he's got it all down, so I'm sure he'd be fine without the help too).  But little man, I'm so worried that you will grow way too much while I am gone and I will miss out on a lot of things, not to mention, what if you do not recognize me when I return.  Yet I know that there will be work trips in the years to come and the first one was inevitable, so I will get it over with now and be rather excited to return home to see you on Friday!  Plus, as Grandma Jean always reminds me, it's the quality of time I spend with you, not the quantity.

I know you and Dad will have a great time while I am away...here is a daily occurrence with you and Dad...he sure likes to get in that playmat and play with you!

Here is one more picture that just makes me laugh.  I had run downstairs to do some laundry so I could finish up my packing for the trip this week and I came up to find you had scooted your little butt in a matter of 2 minutes.  You played like that for another 30 minutes and then got a little frustrated about not being able to continue to turn yourself.  (as a note, when I put you down on the playmat, your legs were coming out of the opening to your right)

Weekend of Firsts

This weekend was another weekend filled with firsts....

1. You visited your first hotel - we went to visit Grandma Patty and Auntie Liz at the hotel while Sarah did my toes (and entertained you).  All the guys had left to check out the town, but your cousin Owen was around to hang out.  He definitely wanted to play and calm you.  I'm not entirely certain you enjoyed your first hotel experience...

2. Saturday was your Uncle Mike's and Auntie Cherise's wedding!  You made your first Weber family picture and you weren't screaming in it (way to go little man).  You and I hung out in the back of the church during the ceremony as you were a bit restless with all the people and noise.  However, Mom was able to enjoy the service because as long as I was rocking you did not cry.

3.  Their reception was held on a boat, so you had your first boat ride too.  I think your favorite part was laying on the couches right over the motors.  You liked the vibration and were laughing/smiling for a good 30 minutes.  Here is a picture of the first boat you rode on:

4. Sunday was Daddy's first Father's day with you.  He's already been enjoying the pillows that we gave him.  He's been sleeping really well for the last few days, which we both think is really important since he loves his sleep!  Here's a picture with you and Dad on Father's day.

5. Friday night you started sleeping without a sleep sack swaddle.  You're now an arms free sleeper and you make it through the night. It's fun to watch you on the video monitor when you stir in the middle of the night and also watch you stretch it out/wake up slowly in the mornings.  Here's a picture of your new sleeping pose.

Some other things going on in life right now.  Dad is taking advantage of being home with you each day and having the opportunity to dress you.  This is the picture I received last week of you in his favorite team (of course you have your dukes up).

Besides having your dukes up in the picture, I like to think you really do not like the White Sox, since I also got this picture of you covering up the logo.

You are such a cute little man.  And while this past weekend overwhelmed you and you were definitely overstimulated, not to mention overtired (you slept most of Sunday)....you definitely made it through your first wedding weekend.  We were able to celebrate with a lovely couple and welcome an Auntie into the family (officially - we've of course been calling her that since you arrived).  Unfortunately, we did not get a single family picture of all three of us dressed up (maybe next time). And now, you're such a big boy sleeping without arm restrictions and not waking yourself with the uncontrolled arm movements.  Love ya little man...each day I cannot help but smile when I get to spend time with you and experience new things with you.

Good Days

This morning I woke up a little late - it seems in my sleep stupor last night I had forgotten to set my alarm for the morning.  While only about 5 minutes late, it had me rolling out of the wrong side of the bed.  Then upon coming downstairs, I realized I had not prepared all the stuff I take with me to work every day very well last night.  However, as I was getting into the shower this morning, I heard your muffled cry from the monitor.  During my whole routine, I could not help but hope that you were waking up for the day and I would get to see you awake before I left.  Well my wish came true - it is only the second morning since I started back to work that you've been awake before I left.  And while I was now running more than 10 minutes later than when I usually leave the house, not to mention, thinking about how bad traffic was going to be, I could not help myself by stopping to enjoy life.  Instead of worrying about all of that, I put it aside and decided that your smiling face was way more important.  So I stopped to greet you while you ate and watched a huge smile roll across your face.  However, I did not want to disturb you too much, because I know how distracted you sometimes get.  So I went about my business finishing up the stuff I needed to do to get myself ready to head out the door and then I returned to see you again.  By this time you had finished eating and so I got to see your smile and watch you laugh.   And while this only added to how behind I was, I no longer had a care in the world.  Your smiling face and laughs were just what I needed to remind me that sometimes you need to stop and enjoy the little things around you.  My work would be waiting when I got there and I was staying later for a meeting in the afternoon - so why rush when I could hang out with you a little bit.

It may have only been a coincidence but the first song I heard on the radio upon getting into the car to start my commute was "Time is Love" by Josh Turner.  It made me smile from ear to ear.  I first heard this song while feeding you in the early hours of the morning during your first month of life and the lyrics could not remind me more of what I was experiencing this morning.  Of course, I was also smiling because it reminded me of our middle of the night times together and those wonderful 12 weeks we spent together when I was not heading to work on weekdays.

"I know I have to put in the hours, make the money when the sunlight shines.
But anything I got to get done, it can get done some other time.

Time is love, gotta run.
Love to hang out longer, but I got someone who waits,
Waits for me, and right now [he's] where I need to be.
Time is love, gotta run.

I only get so many minutes, don't want to spend them all on the clock.
In the time that we've spent talking, how many kisses have I lost?"

Little man...thanks for reminding me this morning that sometimes, I need not roll out of the wrong side of the bed because I am five minutes later than usual.  Instead, I will remember that maybe this will offer me the chance to see you awake and spend some quality time with you before I leave for work.  That after all, was the best start to my day, and set the stage for the great day that I had today.

I'm sure you will hate me when you're older...but I cannot resist sharing the cute sleeping pictures from today.

3 Months Old!

You're 3 months old today!!!!

I cannot believe how quickly the time has passed.  You are getting so big and changing so much with each new day.

Here are some of the things that have gone on around you in the last month.  One of the biggest things was a change in who you see for the majority of every day.  I finished up maternity leave on May 28th and Dad started staying home with you on May 29th.  I think all three of us have gone through some adjustments to this change, but we are getting through it and you and I making the most of the time we have together.  The other major things that happened this month include major milestones for me that you helped me celebrate.  We celebrated my birthday, my first mother's day, and my cancer free anniversary.  All of these days were made even more special to me because I now have you in my life.  I think you knew all of the special days because you snuggled, smiled, and we had great days for each one.  It made me even more happy that we now get to celebrate milestones as a family and you're in our lives.

Now, here are some things that have changed with you over the last month.  You definitely are gaining a great personality which most of the time your Dad and I cannot help but laugh at.  You love to put your dukes up and get in a fighting position - but Dad and I generally diffuse those situations by "pounding it" and making you laugh.  As shown above in your picture, you also show us your muscles on a regular basis.  You are smiling and laughing a whole lot more than you were at 2 months and it's so fun to figure out new ways to get that huge smile on your face.  You also love to hold on to things, like your burp clothes or your bib or your favorite - Dad's shirts.  In the last two weeks, you've started sleeping through the night - anywhere from 10 to 12 hours.  With those long hours of sleep at night, you spend most of the day wide awake and wanting to play.  While you like to walk around and be held by Dad and I, you are most comfortable now on your playmat, playing with all the toys.  Finally, speaking of toys, you love Sophie the giraffe.  You've recently decided you like to eat her or maybe you're just giving her kisses.  Either way, she has to go everywhere with you and it's the first thing you've had to take with you outside of the house (she took a trip to Target with us this past weekend because you would not let go of her as we were strapping you in the carseat).

You are growing up to be such a little boy and we think you're looking less like a baby every day.  Here are some of the fun pictures we've taken over the last few weeks that have not made previous blog posts.  I have to admit, most of them come to me via email from your Dad while I'm at work - it's one of the little things I look forward to on a daily basis.

I love pictures of you snoozing in our arms!

The first picture I received while at work on my first day back.  You were wide awake at 6:15 am and not going back to sleep for Dad.

Generally, this is what happens when we take too long while taking pictures or getting your bottles ready.

Notice in this picture, you are grabbing the frog and your chain.  This grasping of things is a new thing for you in the last couple weeks but you love to swing those toys around and watch what they do!

Your beautiful smile.  How can we not love pictures like this.

Go Twins!  I'm hoping this will be your favorite baseball team, of course your Dad has another idea and other onesies with White Sox logos on them.  We will see which team you pick.

And finally - eating Sophie (or maybe just giving her a kiss).

As always, love you lots little man and happy 3 month birthday.
