First Haircut

You got your first haircut on Friday (3/1/2013).  Your hair has been growing so much over the past year that we thought we'd better get it cut before your birthday party this weekend (more on that later).  Not to mention, Grandpa Charlie and Grandpa Nick were coming and each one has made several comments about the length of your hair.  So off we went and even though I've said it before as you've grown over the last year...you really look like a little boy instead of a baby.

Before

During the haircut.  As a note, you made it 12 minutes.  Christina the lady who cuts both Mom and Dad's hair said that she normally has 7 minutes before she needs to be done with a little kid's hair.  We were impressed you even let the cape go on and the process start.

11 months old!!

You're 11 months old today and I seem to have a harder time believing your age as the months go by.  Where has our time together gone?!  In 28 days you will be 1 year old.  Yikes!

1. You LOVE cheese puffs.  You start to get excited when we get up from feeding you purees and when we pull out the canister, you scream and clinch your fists with extreme excitement.

2. You will do anything on the changing table, but let someone change you.  Mostly you like to roll over and then peek over the side of your changing table to see what's going on down below.

3.  You back into corners or underneath things - so much so that I wonder if we will be able to get you out of those places at times.

4. Your favorite place to play at daycare is behind the jumpers or underneath the chairs.  Dad has arrived to pick you up and found you underneath a chair, with a baby sleeping in it.  You're such a troublemaker.

5. You scoot - backwards most times, but you're getting better at forwards.

6. You like to rock backwards in your high chair.  You tend to do it so hard that the front legs of the chair come off the ground.  This normally gets a response from Dad or I that includes no Oliver, you're going to hurt yourself.  Your response is of course to smile and start doing it all over again.

7.  Dad had to move down your crib mattress because you pull yourself up now.

8. Your new favorite word is mama.

9.  Skyping has become a normal weekly event.  If we haven't done it for a few days, you generally will crawl over to where the computer sits and look at it to see if anyone is in the screen.  At this point I know you want to see Grandma Jean, Grandpa Charlie, or Grandma and Grandpa Weber.

10.  Upon waking in the morning, you say "HI!" to all of your animals that sit on the floor in your room.  You also say "HI!" when we come down the stairs to the living room to all the animals that stay in the living room for you to play with.

11.  The vacuum horrifies you.  It does not even have to be on and you freak out.

Happy 11 month birthday little man.  Love you to the moon and back.

Crackers, Weekend up North, Play dates, and Baths...

Well the last couple weeks have kept us plenty busy with new things for you and enjoying the start to 2013.

Crackers...
The first part of the blog comes from what we heard from Ms. Carrie at daycare.  We have been trying to introduce more solid foods and when I say solid foods, I mean non puree solid foods - like puffs, cheerios, and crackers.  Well last Tuesday night, Dad and I noticed on your paper for the day that we get from daycare, that you had eaten crackers during the day.  Needless to say, we were stunned.  So on Wednesday morning, Dad asked Ms. Carrie how you did with it, what kind of cracker it was, and what was the trick (since we were not having any success at home).  Well here is what Dad heard, you were sitting at the base of the high chairs while your classmates were eating (all of them getting crackers) and you kept holding up your hands in a gesture that you wanted one.  So Ms. Carrie gave you one and you held it up all proud and excited, waving it around for everyone to see, and every time someone walked by.  She did say, you didn't really eat much of it and basically just crushed it on your hands, which got a little messy when you were handed your sippy cup with water.  Since that time, we've put puffs, cheerios, and crackers on your tray and while you do not do much with them (you basically suck on them), it's fun to watch you wave them around and get excited about them.  We are hoping soon, you'll put them in your mouth and gobble them all up.

Weekend up North and Playdates...
We, you and Mom, spent the weekend up north at Grandpa Charlie and Grandma Jean's house.  We decided to head up north to see them since we have not been there since July and also so Mom could spend the day with one of her best friends, Lindsay, for a spa day.  So Saturday, you spent the day with Grandpa and Grandma and Mom got a massage and pedicure.  We had a great time up north with Grandma and Grandpa.  You were such a trooper, eating in a different high chair and playing with only a few of your toys.  Not to mention, sharing a room each night with Mom while you slept.  You also had a play date with Lindsay's sons' Henry and Charlie.  You were mesmerized by them when they came to visit and shared your toys with them to play.  Here are some pictures of our weekend visit...

Excited to be out of the car and hanging out with Grandma

Hanging out with Grandpa

Sharing your football with Charlie

Playing with Charlie and Henry

Bath Time
Finally, your hair is getting long.  We've been talking about how we will wait to cut it until your helmet is off full time, but now that your helmet is off part time we kind of like your hair as it is.  I'm sure it'll get long soon enough and we will have to get it trimmed, but until then, we will have fun at bath time like we did last night.  Here are some fun pics from your play time in the tub.

Love you little man, you're getting big and keeping us busy each day.

10 months old!

I am just in utter shock that you have already reached your 10 month birthday...where has the time gone?!

1.  Your favorite word this month was DADDY - and you scream it when you say it.

2.  You enjoy pushing puffs and peas around your tray, occasionally, you will eat some.

3.  Just this week you started wearing your helmet only while you sleep.  The doc thinks it'll be off completely by February.

4.  Standing at the table is your first choice when it comes to playing.  After about 20 minutes you get tired and decide that sitting/laying on the floor is a good alternative.

5.  You roll - A LOT - when rolling doesn't get you to the correct spot, you rotate your body and then roll again to get what you need (I think you think crawling is for the birds).

6.  You have moved on from baby toys and now your toys include on/off switches.  We have learned that it's ok to not always turn them on while you playing.

7.  We think your molars are coming in.  During every play session you take time to put your finger in your mouth and bite down (mainly because I do not think the teething rings fit that far back in your mouth).  However, putting this finger in your mouth too far causes you to gag - then you look at us like why are you doing this to me.  It makes us laugh.

8.  You really like your Robeez monster shoes.  They are the only thing that prevents you from pulling off your socks.

9.  You now have a bed time and we put you in your crib while you are awake.  At one time this caused screaming for an amount of time, now you play a little, and then go to sleep without a peep.

10. You have moved on from napping in the chair.  Instead you prefer your crib.  This allows us time to get things done around the house, without having to tip toe around your chair so you get in a good nap.

Happy 10 month birthday little man....love you to the moon and back.

December to Remember

This month has definitely included firsts...

On December 6th - you took your first plane right to Washington DC.  For the next week, we enjoyed the city and the sights.  You and Dad toured around while I was at work on the weekdays.  It was a fun trip and exciting for us as you did well on your first and second plane rides, along with your first hotel stay, and first extended stay away from home.

You and Dad in front of the Washington Monument (you are taking your afternoon nap)

Playing in the hotel room

Out for a walk in downtown

In the airport on your way to Washington DC

On the plane with Dad on your way to Washington DC (you had 5 rows to yourself in the back of the plane and the flight attendants loved you!)

In the insect zoo at the Museum of Natural History

Make shift high chair in the hotel room for dinner

This month continued with Dad's first birthday with you and your first Christmas.  We had a great time spending time with each of our families and being able to spend all the time with you.  Here is a few pictures from Christmas morning.

As always...love you little man!  Hope you had as much fun this past month as we have!

9 months old!

You're 9 months old today and it's your first birthday month that I'm not there to snuggle you and help Dad with pictures.  Tomorrow you will take your first plane ride to see me working in Washington DC and I'm so excited to see you when you arrive! It's hard to believe we reached this milestone so quickly!

1.  You're talking (babbling) a lot now!  Even on the phone with me this week, you talked my ear off for most of the time Dad held the phone to your ear.

2.  You're a rolling machine!

3.  You still have 8 teeth, but we are thinking more are coming soon, because you're drooling all the time and constantly chewing on everything again.

4.  Thanksgiving was such a treat with you!  You were fascinated by all the people that came to our house and sitting at the table with us during dinner.  You enjoyed a meal of sweet potatoes.

5.  You're eating more solid foods than drinking milk.  You would much rather eat with a spoon than from a bottle.

6.  You sit on your own now without the assistance of a pillow or our help.

7.  You like to stand with assistance, next to the couch, on your changing table, or our laps.  It doesn't matter where, you just love to stand.

8.  You are so excited to see us when we come into the room, pick you up from daycare, or arrive home.  It melts my heart to see your huge smile and hear the noises you make with excitement.

9.  You perk up when the camera comes out or we raise our phones to take a picture of you.  It's so fun to watch, it's as if you know to pose.

Love you little man, to the moon and back, cannot wait to see you tomorrow.

8 Months Old!

You're 8 months old today!

1.  I cannot believe how fast you are growing up!  You used to be a little baby who I could cuddle so close and you'd look up at me and snuggle in closer.  Now, you want to do your own thing and you're developing a big personality.

2. You have 8 teeth - yes, that's right 8.  And the last two sets that have come in, cut through 3 at a time.

3.  You went to your first hockey game this past month.  The UMD Bulldogs played the Wisconsin Badgers at Amsoil Arena.  You were fascinated by all the people and got a little scared when I jumped up because the Bulldogs scored.  You recovered quickly and handled the second goal as if it was no big deal.  We are so excited to continue to take you to the games and share with you our love for hockey.

4.  You sit up on your own.  There's no need for the boppee anymore...you're just a sitting machine without any assistance.

5.  Besides saying mama this month, you also said dada.  But your favorite words (which aren't really words) are ba, ga, ya, and ah.  It's so fun to see your face light up as you say one of them.

6.  You eat 3 meals of solid foods a day.  It makes life interesting, in more than one way.

7.  You love kids and babies.  Whenever we see one out in public, you cannot take your eyes off of them.  You also get very excited when we arrive at daycare and there are several kids playing in your room.  They love to see you too and come up to greet you every morning.  Also, this weekend, you loved watching Liz (momma's friend Amanda's daughter).  When we tried to take a picture together, you were swinging your arm to touch Liz's head.  We of course had to teach you gentle because she is such a new baby!

8.  You want everything of ours.  And if you get your hand on something, it goes directly to your mouth.  It sure makes life interesting when we are carrying our cell phone or the home phone, not to mention, when you see us with food or something to drink.  I could name off several more things...but let's just summarize and say, you want everything and you want it in your mouth.

Happy 8 month birthday little man.  Love you to the moon and back.
